I went to my friend Kyle's house last night and we played Hero Quest for a while. Then we started to watch an anime one of his coworkers had lent him called Neon Genesis Evangelion. I've watched the first 8 episodes in the 26 episode series. It is pretty good, I must say.
The series starts out confusing (but what anime doesn't) but quickly remedies that with some wonderfully drawn art and great action. And as the story progresses, the plot actually gets deeper and has twists (it's not just another mech suit series!).
But the series isn't all serious action, there are some fun parts -- Pen Pen is one of the best random animal characters I've seen in any anime series.
The only downfall is the few random scenes peppered throughout the episodes that are about 30 seconds to a minute long of someone just staring at the ground (complete with cricket noises in the background). But at least there are no prolonged scenes of someone grunting while their eyes flicker -- fans of Dragon Ball Z know what I'm talking about.
Overall, I'd say this is a really good series so far, and I'm excited to see how it turns out.
